Relay for Life 2025: a strong show of solidarity
The Cancer Foundation is once again organising its annual Relay for Life. Join us on 22 and 23 March to show your solidarity with people affected by the disease.
24 hours symbolising the sufferer's long journey
The Cancer Foundation was founded in 1994. Its mission is to inform and raise awareness among the public and the authorities, to provide psychological support and practical advice to patients and their families, and to fund research, such that everyone works together to fight cancer.
Every year, the Foundation organises the Relay for Life: over the course of 24 hours, teams take turns walking, running or cycling, symbolising the arduous journey that begins from the moment of diagnosis. Since the lifting of Covid restrictions, the event has been organised in-person at La Coque in Luxembourg-Kirchberg and remotely in a hybrid format throughout the weekend for a total of 24 hours.
Figures tell the story
In 2024, around 300 Survivors & Caregivers were honoured for their courage and tenacity in the fight against the disease. A total of 301 teams in-person at La Coque and 225 teams connecting remotely rallied together over the weekend of 23-24 March, enabling some 13,500 participants to show their support. The grand sum of €891,253 was raised to fund the work of the Cancer Foundation. ‘Trophées de l'Espoir’ (trophies of hope) were awarded to the team that raised the most funds in each of six different categories: Associations & Clubs, Schools, Companies & Institutions, Countries, Sympathisers and Healthcare Professions. Throughout the event, visitors could learn more about cancer prevention at 12 dedicated workshops at La Coque.
Engaged as a caring and community player
Banque de Luxembourg has partnered the Relay for Life with a financial donation since its first edition in 2005. But over and above this, the Bank supports the Relay for Life through the personal commitment of its employees. This year, three teams of runners and around a hundred volunteers at the various catering stations and checkpoints are contributing their time and energy to the success of this emblematic event. This is the perfect expression of Banque de Luxembourg’s people-centred approach, in keeping with our vocation of being ‘Attentive to future generations’.
