The 14th edition of the Luxembourg Cancer Foundation's Relay for Life will be held on 23 and 24 March 2019 at the Coque Leisure Centre in Luxembourg-Kirchberg. Please turn out in force for this important event, held in support of cancer patients!

25 years of the Cancer Foundation

Established in Luxembourg in 1994, the Cancer Foundation celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. That’s 25 years of providing information to the general public, conducting awareness campaigns, giving patients and their families practical advice, and funding research.

At the Foundation’s headquarters, a multi-disciplinary team of professionals is always on hand to support patients and their families throughout the patient’s illness, providing psychological support, offering financial assistance, putting them in touch with support groups, and more.

Meanwhile, the Foundation’s information campaigns cover both cancer prevention and systematic screening, different types of cancer and their symptoms, treatments available and support patients can get as they near the end of their life. The Foundation also funds research projects, bursaries and training programmes.

14th edition of Relay for Life

Every year for the past 14 years, the Cancer Foundation has organised a major solidarity event called Relay for Life. Teams of runners from the healthcare and education sectors, the business world and non-profit associations spend one day taking turns to run – or walk – around a track to symbolise the long journey of a cancer patient.

25 hours of solidarity

In honour of the Cancer Foundation’s 25th anniversary, the event will last 25 hours, starting at 7.30pm on Saturday 23 March and ending at 8.30pm on Sunday 24 March. For the enjoyment of visitors and their families, there will be information stands, workshops for children, and booths offering a steady flow of drinks and snacks.

Participants and spectators can also post their photos, videos, comments and messages via Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #Relais2019Lux.

A programme of support and hope

The opening ceremony of Relay for Life 2019 will take place on Saturday 23 March at 6pm. Starter’s orders for the relay teams will be at 7.30pm. Sunday’s highlight will be the candle ceremony, where candles decorated with words of encouragement and solidarity will be lit at 5pm as a symbol of hope for patients and their loved ones.

Banque de Luxembourg: some one hundred dedicated volunteers

Banque de Luxembourg has been partnering this event since it started in Luxembourg, and this year is no exception. As well as financial support, two teams of runners from the Bank will take turns on the track, while some one hundred volunteers will operate the main cash register and run the catering stands throughout the Relay event. Please come along on 23 and 24 March at La Coque to show your support for cancer patients!
