Teaching the next generation about investing

On the heels of our very successful first “Boost your investment skills” masterclass, Banque de Luxembourg is ready with a new edition, this time aimed at young investors. This initiative is part of our financial education programme developed to help the next generation of investors to navigate the increasingly complex financial landscape. The masterclass will provide them with the tools and strategies for interpreting market signals and lay the foundations for making informed long-term investment decisions. Interview with Anne Goedert, Key Clients Adviser, Banque de Luxembourg.

What prompted you to launch a second edition of the “Boost your investment skills” masterclass?

Anne Goedert: Our first masterclass made one thing clear: young investors are really keen to learn how markets work. The discussions were lively and interesting, the questions to the point, and the feedback enthusiastic. A second edition was the logical next step to respond to the needs expressed by participants and offer even more targeted content.

Next-gen investors are not looking for cookie-cutter solutions. They want a deeper understanding to plan their own path forward.

What stages of individuals’ financial lives is this masterclass aimed at?

Quite often, participants are at a turning point. They may be making their first investment decisions, or starting to build their wealth, or gradually becoming aware of family financial issues.

These life stages tend to throw up a lot of questions for people – and they may not have the framework to answer them. This is where the masterclass comes in: we aim to lay the groundwork and provide the structure to help young people plan for the future.

What sets this masterclass apart from other financial education offerings?

The “Boost your investment skills” masterclass is organised in modules. Participants can choose between the module for beginners or the more advanced module for those with some basic knowledge of investing.

The workshops are highly interactive, actively encouraging participation and discussion through role-play exercises and open-ended questions. Rather than merely learning theory, the aim is to understand the markets and different asset classes.

We believe that financial education is the key to confident and independent decision-making.

Why is it so important to educate young investors as early as possible?

The financial decisions we make early in life often have lasting effects. Yet investing is often perceived as abstract or intimidating.

By tackling these questions early on, we help young investors to develop a long-term approach and grasp the importance of risk, diversification and consistency in building wealth. These insights are essential to grow their wealth with confidence.

Why is the interactive format so important?

Interaction is key. Our masterclass gives the opportunity to engage — not only with the Bank’s experts, but also with the other participants. This dynamic format sparks debate, encourages people to share ideas, and helps them to step back and see the bigger picture.

We learn more and better in an open setting where people discuss and share their experience.

What do you hope young investors will take away from the masterclass?

I want them to leave with a better understanding of how finance works and, above all, I want to empower them to ask the right questions.

Wealth management is not about luck. It’s a combination of knowledge, strategy and time.

We want young investors to feel more at ease about making decisions, talking about finance and shaping their financial future with confidence and clarity.

Key message

Start early, keep learning and don’t grapple with complex decisions alone. At Banque de Luxembourg, we believe that financial education is a powerful tool. This “Boost your investment skills” masterclass aims to help young investors understand the world of finance and make informed decisions, now and in the future.
