Investment objective and policyThe fund aims to beat returns offered by money-market products and bonds while avoiding volatility usually associated with the stock markets. This means that the fund offers greater capital protection during bear markets. The weighting of the various asset classes may change significantly depending on how attractive they are in relation to each other (from 0 to 100%).
Management report - 1st Quarter 2021During the first quarter of 2021, bond yields rose across the board and the equity market rally was driven by the strong performance of value companies. The two main drivers of this performance were the Democrats' victory in Georgia at the start of the year, paving the way for massive new fiscal stimulus measures in the US, and the successful roll-out of vaccines in the US and the UK. One year since equity markets bottomed out, the S&P 500 has risen 78%, surpassing its pre-crisis highs by 17%, and is up 5.7% year-to-date. The 10-year US Treasury yield is now 1.75%, up from a low of 0.5% in August 2020 and 0.9% at the start of the year. From January to the end of March, the MSCI All Country World Index net total return expressed in USD posted positive performance of 4.57%. On the bond side, the J.P. Morgan Government Bond Index US Unhedged LOC fell -4.65% following the rise in long-dated yields. The NAV of BL Global Flexible USD (retail accumulation share net of fees in USD) gave up -0.43% during the first quarter. At the end of March 2021, BL Global Flexible USD was 97% invested in equities. Part of the equity exposure is hedged via a short in equity index futures, reducing the net equity exposure to 62.5%. Cash accounts for 3% of the fund. In terms of currencies, the fund is invested as follows: 80.5% in USD, 4.5% in CHF, 4.4% in EUR, 3.8% in JPY, 2.9% in GBP and 3.9% in other currencies, mainly those of emerging markets. At the end of March 2021, none of the currency exposure was hedged by foreign exchange contracts.
